Kingvale is the closest snow play area to the Bay Area. Right off of I-80 at exit 171, it's close enough for day trips, and you can usually get here without needing chains or 4WD.
Kingvale was one of Tahoe's original ski areas, founded in the 60's, but has gone through multiple ownership changes over the years. We reopened for skiing and snowboarding during the 2020/21 winter season and will be opening even more great terrain this season for beginners and intermediate skiers and riders!
While much smaller than nearby resorts (such as Squaw or Northstar), Kingvale is great for families looking for an authentic introduction to winter sports, with perfect terrain for first time skiers and snowboarders.
Like all Snow Schoolers locations, Kingvale offers affordable skiing & sledding options in Tahoe, as well as snowshoeing for those seeking a more mellow dose of winter adventure.
While have very minimal indoor facilities, we will be requiring masks indoors this season, especially as our rental shop is fairly close quarters. Masks will fortunately not be required outside this season!
We have a delicious new restaurant that just opened in November 2021, and will be serving pizza and refreshments all season long. Espeically on busy weekends, we encourage customers to bring their own lunches or snacks, as the restaurant cannot accommodate the many hundreds of visitors we welcome to the hill, even with indoor dining now available.
While we have very minimal indoor facilities, we will be requiring masks inside the rental shop as it is fairly close quarters. Masks will fortunately not be required at all outside this season!
