About Brian Bensch

I grew up in Santa Clara, CA and began skiing at Bear Valley at the age of 4. He spent his high school days in Tahoe, and worked as a ski instructor for 4 years in college at Dartmouth, before moving back to San Francisco in 2009. After 6+ years at Google and Metromile focused on advertising & growth analytics, Brian moved back to Tahoe in 2016 and is now focused full-time on helping more people discover a lifelong passion for the outdoors.

Brian was a great ski instructor for our 2 boys (ages 5 & 8). His personality and energy put them at ease immediately. They loved their lesson and improved significantly in just an hour. As a parent, I really appreciated Brian's clear communication style and friendly attitude. We would love to work with Brian again in the future!

Brian was super friendly. He was very easy to find on the day of the lesson, and very helpful with finding us lift tickets and recommending equipment rental places. He clearly knows his stuff very well but at times it could be a little hard to understand exactly what he was explaining. One suggestion that I can think of: I learn best when I'm reading something on my own, would it be possible to create some material to send out in advance? I know most people wouldn't read it but just an idea, some of us might!

Brian was great to work with. He was in touch as we were setting up the lesson and helped us to decide what the best setup was for our kids. He also checked in with us the day before the lesson to give us tips on getting to the resort, timing etc. During the lesson he managed to make progress with 3 very different kids at different levels of learning. He was flexible, positive and took each of our kids further in their learning than we expected. He was even in touch after the lesson and shared pictures and feedback. We really appreciated his attention to detail, flexibility and thoughtfullness. Thanks, Brian!

Brian was fantastic today instructing me and my 2 kids. He is patient, kind and super engaging and we all felt that we improved tremendously from the start of the lesson until we finished 3 hours later. I would highly recommend Brian as an instructor!

Great articulation of what we were doing, why we were doing it, and how to do it. I had a great time during my hour with Brian!

Brian was an excellent instructor for our 6 year old son, Matty. Brian was patient and steady with his verbal instructions & demonstrations. His demeanor allowed our son to feel encouraged and to have fun at the same time. Brian's approach to ski instruction did wonders for Matty's confidence because when we returned to Homewood in the afternoon (long after his 9-10 am lesson), Matty actually wanted to ride the Happy Platter lift (pole on springs) to see if he could finally conquer it himself. (Brian had to accompany Matty all the previous times in the morning.) Not only was Matty able to ride the lift halfway and ski down the hill solo, he was also able to snap his own ski back on by himself after it became detached during one of his runs. It was great to see our son have the self-confidence and determination to want to actually get better and enjoy skiing. After the lessons, Brian also provided helpful detailed feedback via email on our son's progress during his lessons. This is important as it provides a better understanding of our son's capabilities/ski level and for planning future private or group lessons. It definitely helps us as parents to have concrete details regarding where our child can improve. All round great experience with Brian Bensch!

My husband & I booked a lesson with Brian this past weekend. We booked at the very last minute but Brian was very responsive and managed to fit us in. He was very friendly and gave clear and easy to understand feedback about our progress. We had a great time, and would love to take another lesson later in the season.

Brian helped me enormously and it was a pleasure working with him. I've progressed a lot and I'm sure it would take me a long time to reach this level by myself.
